Founding History and Development
Founding Preparation in 1986 as Shu-te Institute of Technology
Approved by MOE as Shu-te Institute of Technology o August 16, 1997
Renamed as Shu-te University on August 1, 2000
STU is located in the core of the Kaohsiung Campus Area of Yanchao District, Kaohsiung City. In order to implement the school-running motto in a practical way, and to promote the upgrading of the business, service and design industries, Shu-te Institute of Technology was founded in 1986. In 1997, it was accredited for enrollment by MOE, and in 2000, it became the first school in the southern region to be renamed as STU from a newly established institute of technology.
Its institutional motto is “Academic, Intellectual, Happy, Hopeful.” It aims at building a self-developed learning environment with a multi-disciplinary, integrated, and open philosophy of management as well as a campus life with self-discipline and mutual respect. It fosters both humanity and technology, cultivating professionals with problem-solving and leading skills, and implementing a balanced development of theory and practice. So far, it has been the center of the Kaohsiung Campus Area where seven universities lie in and also the key area after the merger of Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City. STU with the north and south campuses in total area exceeds more 40 hectares across Hengshan Road (Taiwan Line 21) in Yanchao District, emerging with stable operation and potential development.
STU currently consists of five colleges in management, informatics, design, applied social sciences and liberal education, including a doctoral program, twelve graduate schools apart from a master’s degree program), twenty departments, five degree programs (including Bachelor Program of Hair-styling and Management, Bachelor Program of E-sports Industry Management, Bachelor of Social Work Program, Bachelor Program of International Business in English, Bachelor Program of Automobile Electronics (stopping new enrollment in 2019)), and five two-year continuing education vocational school divisions. This multitude of educational programs, with more than ten thousand students, includes four-year bachelor’s day programs, two-year college night programs, and two-year junior college night programs. Through its programs of instruction corresponding to social trends and life applications, continuing education is provided and STU is able to fulfill its commitment to its organizational mission of technology in life and life in technology.
